Best Comics of 2025

Best Comics of 2025

Hey everyone, 2025 is wrapping up and what an excellent year of new comics being released! I have been tracking the comics I've read using League of Comics, which gives some useful stats on my comic reading that I'll share below!

My requirements for the best comics of 2025 must meet one of the following:

  • Issue #1 released in 2025
  • The TPB released in 2025
  • Not a reprint of a comic from the past

In no particular order, below are my top comics for 2025

Assorted Crisis Events

This book has exceeded all my expectations and makes you take a good look at life. This book has brought some serious emotional impact and really pushes what a comic can do. Something that I love is that since it's an anthology series, you don't really need to read or remember what happened in previous issues; each story is crafted to be read on its own. If there is a comic book that made an impact in my life in how I view things, this is it.

  • Letterer - Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

Absolute Batman: The Zoo

All the Absolute titles have been truly fantastic, but my pick will have to be Absolute Batman. A modern reinvention of Batman, changing the mythos and one of the biggest stories to attract new readers to comics, Absolute Batman takes the cake.

I've done a review on Absolute Batman, but I'm sure you've seen the endless amount of TikToks, Reels, Reddit posts, etc., on how badass this book is.

(I will also give a special shout-out to the Absolute Batman Annual issue by Daniel Warren Johnson—fantastic stuff!)

  • Colorist - Frank Martin

Captain America: Our Secret Wars

Marvel had a lot of excellent stories this year, but Chip Zdarsky's run on Captain America is top tier. Following two different Captain Americas and tying into One World Under Doom, the Our Secret Wars arc (issues #1-5) was a masterpiece. Zdarsky expertly weaves together past and present, showcasing the brutality and how war affects the psyche. This was an emotional and intense story that deserves to be read.

A collected edition isn't out yet, but my guess is it will be released sometime in 2026. If you want to read it now, the arc runs through Captain America issues #1-5, which are available in single issues or digitally.

  • Story/Writer - Chip Zdarsky
  • Artist - Valerio Schiti
  • Colorist - Frank Martin

The City Beneath Her Feet

This series isn't complete and had some major distribution issues with a nearly one-year gap between issues #1 and #2, but The City Beneath Her Feet tells such an exciting story that it's worth the wait. Described as "a bloody love letter to New York City," this action-thriller follows Zara, a writer thrusted into the world of Jasper Jayne—the mysterious love of her life who disappears.

DSTLRY's premium prestige format allows the comic to enjoyed in a higher quality visual that you don't get with other comics. Issue #3 is releasing in February (fingers crossed) and will wrap up the story. Despite the delays, this series showcases everything I love about comics—bold storytelling, gorgeous art, and a exciting take on the action-romance genre.

  • Story/Writer - James Tynion IV
  • Artist - Elsa Charretier
  • Colorist - Jordie Bellaire
  • Letterer - Aditya Bidikar

G.I Joe: The Cobra Strikes

I got addicted to the Energon Universe last year with the miniseries Scarlett, and now I am so invested in this universe with G.I. Joe being the highlight for me. Joshua Williamson took a beloved property and allowed a new audience to fall in love with these characters while honoring what made them special in the first place. This isn't just nostalgia—it's an action movie in comic form that's intense, high stakes, and genuinely develops its characters beyond their toy origins.

What makes this series exceptional is how Williamson balances explosive set pieces with real character moments. The team feel like actual soldiers navigating impossible missions. The stakes are personal and global, and each arc builds on the last in meaningful ways. Tom Reilly's artwork captures the kinetic energy of every firefight while Jordie Bellaire's colors give the book a gritty, grounded aesthetic that perfectly suits the tone.

At the time of writing, we are now 16 issues in, nearly 3 arcs completed, and it sounds like we are going to get a lot more! I've written and spoke about this universe a ton on MyComicCrate, so definitely give this a shot—whether you're a longtime G.I. Joe fan or completely new to the franchise.

MyComicCrate Reading Stats

Definitely not nearly as many comics as I assumed I read in 2025—looking forward to comparing these numbers at the end of next year!
