Superman #30 - My Honest Thoughts

Superman #30 is here, concluding the three-issue Legion of Darkseid arc, and it's building directly to DC's next major event! DC K.O. #1 comes out in just under 2 weeks, and this issue is key to what's happening next.

This issue wastes no time and gets straight into it. We do get it officially confirmed that the villains are from the Absolute Universe, which is exciting to see these two universes interconnecting! We get plenty more time with Superboy Prime, who is just hilarious and such a fun read. As someone who was not that familiar with him in the past, I very much enjoy his character.

We left off in issue #29 with Superman finding Booster Gold, and man oh man, Booster has been through some tough times, but before things get better, I'm assuming things are going to get a bit worse for him as he is the key to time travel for Darkseid and his legion. With Superman seeing the future and time traveling to the 31st century, I love that he is struggling with the fact that being Superman isn't enough for the world to be okay and that he needs to actively fight every day to make the world a better place.

For an issue leading into a major event, I'm happy with how well it sets up the larger picture while also keeping this a Superman story and not deviating too far. I will say, the 2 pages we get of Lex Luthor in the middle seemed a bit out of place—perhaps I'm missing something, but I'm a bit confused.

Dan Mora, somehow juggling multiple books at the same time, delivers some panel-perfect art.

Next week DC is releasing Justice League: The Omega Act Special #1, which ties together this issue and DC K.O., so luckily for us, we don't have to wait long to get our fix.

Verdict: I had a blast with this issue. While I wish the arc had a bit more depth, it did the job and I was entertained, which is the most you can ask for. I'm hyped to see what happens with next week's one-shot and will probably be buying a ton of the crossover issues for DC K.O.
